Stanbic commits 40m/- to boost healthcare in fast-growing Kigamboni

Stanbic Bank Tanzania has donated medical equipment and supplies worth TSh40 million to Vijibweni Hospital, targeting gaps in maternal healthcare, patient monitoring and routine diagnostic services in one of Dar es Salaam’s rapidly growing districts.

The contribution is expected to strengthen the Kigamboni hospital’s capacity to attend to patients, particularly mothers and families who depend on public healthcare facilities, as population growth increases demand for essential medical services in the dsitruct.

The donation includes five hospital beds, a delivery bed, 15 bedside lockers, a patient monitor, two oxygen flow metres and 30 digital blood pressure machines. Infection-control supplies and computer equipment to support hospital administration and record-keeping are also part of the package.

Beyond its monetary value, the community social investment (CSI) is expected to address practical gaps in healthcare delivery by improving accommodation for admitted patients and mothers, while enabling closer monitoring of critical cases. According to the lender, the 30 digital blood pressure machines will expand routine screening across hospital departments, helping healthcare workers detect potential complications and make timely clinical decisions.

Speaking during the handover on October 9, 2026, Stanbic Bank’s Head of Personal and Private Banking, Omari Mtiga, said the investment reflected the bank’s commitment to supporting essential community services beyond its financial business.

“Access to quality healthcare is essential to building healthier, stronger and more productive communities,” he said, adding that the contribution was intended to equip healthcare professionals with tools to provide timely and effective care.

The intervention comes as Kigamboni faces growing pressure on public infrastructure and services. District Commissioner Dalmia Mikaya said the area’s rapid growth had increased demand on health facilities, making support of this kind important to efforts to close service-delivery gaps.

“Kigamboni is growing quickly, and our health facilities are serving far more people than they were built for. Equipment of this kind reaches the patient directly,” she said.

District Medical Officer Lucas Ngamtwa said the equipment would improve the hospital’s daily operations by enabling staff to conduct assessments, attend to mothers and monitor patients more effectively.

The handover builds on Stanbic’s previous community interventions in Kigamboni through its Stanbic Madawati Initiative. The bank donated 150 desks worth TSh20 million to Ufukoni Primary School and planted 150 trees in the district.

The latest contribution extends the bank’s community investment into healthcare, another essential service linked to social well-being and economic productivity.

For Kigamboni residents, the practical test will be whether the equipment translates into better access to routine screening, improved monitoring of patients and more effective maternal care. For the hospital and district authorities, the donation offers an opportunity to address some immediate equipment needs while continuing to tackle the broader demands created by the area’s expanding population. The handover was also attended by Vijibweni Ward Councillor Nicholas Mranda, Acting District Administrative Secretary Agusta Safari, hospital management and representatives of Stanbic Bank Tanzania.
