Puma Energy Tanzania has been recognized as one of the country’s leading corporate taxpayers after receiving the Presidential Best Taxpayer Award in the category of Best Wet Cargo Importer.
The company said in a presser that the distinction highlights the growing role of responsible businesses in supporting Tanzania’s economic development through domestic revenue mobilization.
The award was presented during the Tanzania Revenue Authority’s (TRA) 30th anniversary celebrations, where President Samia Suluhu Hassan honoured outstanding taxpayers from across the country for their contribution to strengthening tax compliance and financing national development.
The recognition comes as Puma Energy Tanzania reports contributing more than TSh 1.4 trillion in taxes and statutory levies over the past three years, reinforcing its position among Tanzania’s largest taxpayers and a key contributor to government revenue.
Puma Energy Tanzania Managing Director, Fatma Abdallah, described the award as recognition of the company’s long-standing commitment to transparency, accountability and compliance.
“This recognition reflects more than our tax contribution. It demonstrates our belief that responsible business practices and full compliance with the law are essential to building a stronger economy. We are proud to partner with the Government in creating sustainable value for Tanzania,” she said.
Ms Abdallah noted that the award would inspire the company to deepen its investment in the country’s energy sector while maintaining the highest standards of corporate governance.
“Our commitment extends beyond paying taxes. We will continue investing in energy infrastructure, expanding cleaner energy solutions and supporting industries that drive economic growth, while remaining a reliable partner in Tanzania’s development journey,” she added.
Beyond its tax contribution, Puma Energy continues to invest in strategic energy infrastructure that supports commerce, transport and industrial production. The company operates more than 100 fuel service stations nationwide, a major fuel storage terminal and several fuel depots, while supplying jet fuel to eight airports, including all of Tanzania’s international airports.
The company is also strengthening Tanzania’s transition towards cleaner energy through Africa’s largest Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mother Station and an expanding network of CNG stations in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro.
Its clean cooking initiative, Puma Gas, alongside its lubricants business and Shop Express retail outlets, further broadens its contribution to economic activity and consumer services.
The Presidential Award reinforces the increasing importance of tax compliance as a pillar of national development.
As Tanzania seeks to expand domestic revenue to finance infrastructure, healthcare, education and other public services, recognition of compliant taxpayers serves both as an incentive for responsible corporate behaviour and a reminder of the private sector’s critical role in achieving the country’s long-term economic ambitions.
