Air Tanzania is set to resume direct flights between Dar es Salaam and Moscow on Monday September 7, 2026, reopening an important air link between Tanzania and Russia after temporarily suspending the service over safety concerns.
The national carrier said the decision followed the completion of a routine risk assessment of the operating environment for the route, conducted in coordination with the relevant authorities.
According to the airline, such assessments are carried out regularly across its flight network to ensure that operating conditions remain suitable for passengers and crew.
“Services are resumed once the results of the assessment indicate that the operating environment is safe for passengers,” the airline said in a statement.
The resumption restores a direct connection between Tanzania’s commercial capital and the Russian capital, potentially strengthening air connectivity between the two markets.
For Tanzania’s aviation and tourism industries, the route also provides a direct link that can support passenger movement and wider commercial connections between the two countries.
Air Tanzania said safety considerations remain central to decisions concerning its international network, with routes subject to periodic assessments as operating conditions change.
The Moscow service had been temporarily suspended following a review of security risks associated with the route. Its reinstatement signals that the latest assessment found the conditions necessary for the airline to resume operations.
The development comes as Tanzania continues to position air connectivity as an important component of its tourism, trade and investment ambitions. Direct international links can reduce travel times and improve accessibility for business travellers, tourists and other passengers.
However, the sustainability of such routes depends not only on safety but also on passenger demand, operating economics, aircraft availability and the ability of airlines to maintain commercially viable schedules.
For Air Tanzania, the return to Moscow therefore represents more than the restoration of a flight. It also provides an opportunity to rebuild passenger traffic on the route and strengthen Tanzania’s links with the Russian market.
