Tanzanian billionaire, Rostam Aziz, has described his strategic investment in Nation Media Group as a move aimed at strengthening regional integration and shared economic progress across East Africa.
Through his company Taarifa Limited, Aziz will acquire a 54.08 percent stake in the Nairobi-based media house, which operates influential platforms including Kenya’s Daily Nation and Uganda’s Daily Monitor.
Addressing a press conference at Serena Hotel in Nairobi on March 11, 2026, he said the partnership between Taifa Group and Nation Media Group reflects a broader belief that deeper investment and cooperation are essential for advancing the region’s development and strengthening institutions that support informed public dialogue. Aziz noted that the investment also represents a commitment to sustaining credible journalism and African storytelling at a time when the global media industry is undergoing rapid digital transformation. He pledged to respect the editorial independence and legacy of the institution, which was built over decades under the stewardship of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development.
