NMB Bank has invested TSh47.6 million in school facilities in Dodoma Region as part of its corporate citizenship programme, targeting shortages of basic learning and boarding facilities in eight schools in Kondoa and Chemba districts.
The support includes desks, chairs, tables, bunk beds and mattresses, with the intervention aimed at creating a more conducive environment for students to learn and, in the case of boarding schools, live.
The investment comes as some schools in the two districts continue to face shortages of basic facilities. Chemba District Council Director Hassan Mnyika said inadequate desks in some schools forces students to sit on the floor.
Receiving the support at Kwadero Girls Secondary School in Kondoa, District Commissioner Fatuma Nyangasa said the facilities would help improve the learning environment for students.
Kwadero Girls was among the beneficiaries and received 15 bunk beds and mattresses to help address shortages in student accommodation.
The other beneficiary schools are Chemba, Mondo and Soya in Chemba District, and Mnenia, Kitewo, Deli and Bolisa in Kondoa District.
The intervention forms part of NMB’s corporate citizenship policy, under which the bank allocates one per cent of its annual net income to corporate social investments.
NMB Central Zone Manager Janeth Shango said education remains one of the areas supported by the bank in collaboration with the Government.
She said NMB would continue supporting schools to address shortages of facilities and improve learning environments according to their needs.
The approach puts the bank’s education support within a broader corporate investment framework, with the annual allocation providing a structured mechanism for supporting communities beyond NMB’s core banking business.
For the beneficiary schools, the immediate focus is on basic facilities that directly affect students’ day-to-day learning and living conditions. The TSh47.6 million intervention therefore combines a targeted response to specific school infrastructure gaps with NMB’s broader corporate citizenship commitment to supporting social development.
