Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) has received the Presidential Taxpayers Award in the Manufacturing Sector, earning national recognition for its commitment to tax compliance, local manufacturing and responsible business practices that continue to contribute to Tanzania’s economic development.

The award was presented by President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) 30th Anniversary celebrations held at the Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam on July 1, 2026.

The inaugural Presidential Taxpayers Award underscores the Government’s recognition of businesses that consistently meet their tax obligations while supporting national development. The President’s decision to personally present the awards for the second consecutive year reflects the growing importance attached to tax compliance as a pillar of Tanzania’s development financing.

Commenting on the recognition, TBL Managing Director Michelle Kilpin said the award affirms the company’s long-standing commitment to responsible business and nation-building.

“We are deeply honoured to receive this recognition from Her Excellency the President. Paying our taxes in full and on time is our responsibility as a Tanzanian company and part of our contribution to the nation’s development. This award belongs to our employees, farmers, suppliers, retailers and partners across the value chain. We remain committed to growing with Tanzania and being a dependable partner in the country’s progress.”

While the award recognises excellence in tax compliance, it also highlights TBL’s broader contribution to Tanzania’s economy through manufacturing, local investment, employment creation and the development of domestic value chains.

As one of Tanzania’s leading manufacturers, TBL’s economic footprint extends well beyond its breweries. The company supports thousands of livelihoods through an extensive network of farmers, transporters, distributors, retailers, suppliers and other small and medium-sized enterprises that form part of its nationwide value chain.

Its local sourcing programme, particularly for barley and sorghum, has strengthened linkages between manufacturing and agriculture by providing farmers with reliable markets while promoting increased domestic production and value addition. The approach supports Tanzania’s industrialisation agenda by keeping more economic value within the country and reducing dependence on imported raw materials.

Beyond its direct economic contribution, TBL has continued to embed sustainability into its operations through investments in water stewardship, responsible sourcing, farmer development, circular packaging systems and recycling initiatives. These programmes reflect the company’s view that long-term business success depends on protecting the natural resources and communities that sustain its operations.

TBL Legal and Corporate Affairs Director Neema Temba said the award recognises both compliance and the wider impact responsible businesses create.

“Responsible business must be measured by both compliance and impact. This honour reflects a simple principle we hold to every day. We believe in doing business openly, meeting our obligations and standing alongside the country that has been our home for decades. When companies pay what they owe, invest where they operate and protect the resources they depend on, the whole nation moves forward.”

The Presidential Taxpayers Award adds to TBL’s growing portfolio of national recognition for tax compliance, sustainability and responsible corporate leadership. It also reinforces the increasingly important role of the private sector in supporting Tanzania’s development priorities through responsible investment, industrial expansion and fiscal contribution. As Tanzania accelerates its economic transformation agenda, TBL says it remains committed to investing locally, strengthening supply chains, supporting communities and creating long-term value through responsible business practices – demonstrating that corporate success and national progress can advance hand in hand.
