Youth lead the green agenda ahead of World Environment Day

As Tanzania prepares to mark World Environment Day on June 5, 2026, hundreds of young people, government officials, environmental experts and stakeholders gathered at the University of Dar es Salaam for a Youth Environmental Forum aimed at promoting youth participation in environmental conservation and the green economy.

The event, organised as part of the national World Environment Day celebrations, was officiated by Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Eng. Hamad Yussuf Masauni, who called on young people to embrace environmental stewardship, innovation and sustainable economic opportunities. The forum also featured exhibitions, tree-planting activities and discussions on the role of youth in advancing Tanzania’s environmental and sustainable development agenda.
