Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) has strengthened Tanzania’s reputation for producing world-class beverages after four of its brands won the prestigious 2026 Gold Quality Awards from the internationally acclaimed Monde Selection.
The brewer attributed the latest monumental achievement and international recognition to sustained investment in quality, innovation and world-class brewing standards.
Describing the achievement as a major endorsement of the company’s manufacturing excellence, SBL Supply Chain Director Joseph Cheloti said the awards demonstrate that Tanzanian-made beverages can compete with the best in the world.
“Receiving the Gold Quality Awards from Monde Selection is a tremendous honour and a strong endorsement that our products meet internationally recognised quality standards,” he said.
“We are proud of this achievement, which reflects the dedication of our people, the quality of the ingredients we use, and the strength of our production processes. Above all, we thank our consumers for their continued trust and loyalty,” he added.
The awards, announced to coincide with International Beer Day, which is markwd annually on August 7, were presented to Serengeti Lite, Serengeti Lager, Serengeti Lemon and the company’s spirits brand TZEE, recognising their compliance with the highest international quality standards.
The recognition follows a rigorous evaluation by an independent panel of international experts, who assessed the products on criteria including overall quality, taste, appearance, innovation, consumer information and user experience.
The achievement positions SBL among a select group of beverage manufacturers whose products meet globally recognised benchmarks while reinforcing Tanzania’s growing reputation as a producer of premium-quality consumer goods.
Founded in Brussels, Belgium, in 1961, Monde Selection is an independent international quality institute that has evaluated consumer products for more than six decades. Every year, more than 80 international experts assess thousands of products from about 150 countries across categories including beer, spirits, food, health products and cosmetics.
For SBL, winning four Gold Quality Awards in a single year underscores the company’s continued investment in manufacturing excellence and innovation while showcasing Tanzania’s beverage industry on the global stage.

The recognition is also expected to enhance the international competitiveness of Tanzanian-made brands, supporting the country’s broader industrialisation agenda and demonstrating that locally produced beverages can compete successfully with leading global brands.
Incorporated in 1988 as Associated Breweries, SBL is the second-largest beer company in Tanzania, with its beer brands accounting for over 30% of the market by volume. SBL has three operating plants in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, and Moshi. Since the creation of SBL in 2002, the business has grown its portfolio of brands year on year. The majority stake acquisition by EABL/Diageo in 2010 has seen increased investment in international quality standards leading to greater job opportunities for the people of Tanzania.
