President Samia Suluhu Hassan today inaugurated the refurbished Kariakoo Market in Dar es Salaam, formally reopening one of Tanzania’s most important commercial landmarks after extensive rehabilitation works. The upgrade has transformed the market with improved fire safety systems, modern trading facilities, better sanitation and enhanced security, aimed at creating a safer and more efficient environment for thousands of traders and customers. Speaking at the ceremony, President Samia said the project underscores her government’s commitment to urban renewal and inclusive economic growth, noting that strengthening key trading centres like Kariakoo is essential to supporting small businesses, boosting local commerce and safeguarding livelihoods.
