Finance Minister, Khamis Mussa Omar, has commended Puma Energy Tanzania for its growing investment in clean energy infrastructure, describing the company’s initiatives as aligned with the country’s economic and environmental ambitions.

Speaking during a meeting with the company’s Managing Director, Ms. Fatma Mohamed Abdallah, at the Ministry of Finance’s sub-office in Dar es Salaam, the minister praised Puma Energy for its operational performance, tax compliance and consistent dividend payments to the government.

He noted that the firm’s results contribute significantly to domestic revenue mobilisation and national development.

Of particular note, the minister highlighted the company’s recent commissioning of a flagship compressed natural gas (CNG) mother station at Tegeta, opposite the former IPTL power plant site in Dar es Salaam.

The facility – described by the company as the largest of its kind in Africa – marks a major step in Tanzania’s push to expand the use of cleaner transport fuels and reduce carbon emissions.

The investment comes at a time when Tanzania is accelerating efforts to harness its natural gas reserves to support industrialisation, energy diversification and climate resilience. The Government has been encouraging private sector participation in gas infrastructure to promote the adoption of CNG and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as alternatives to conventional fuels and biomass.

During the courtesy visit, Ms. Abdallah briefed the minister on Puma Energy Tanzania’s overall performance and strategic direction.

She expressed gratitude for the cooperation and policy support provided by the Government, which she said has enabled the company to deliver its services efficiently and expand its clean energy portfolio.

Puma Energy Tanzania operates as a joint venture between the government and Puma Investments. The company is engaged in the procurement, storage and distribution of aviation fuel, retail and commercial petroleum products, LPG for clean cooking, CNG and related services.

It is a key player in Tanzania’s downstream petroleum sector, serving airlines, transporters and industrial clients nationwide.

Minister Omar reaffirmed the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to supporting investors who align with Tanzania’s sustainable development agenda, pledging continued collaboration to ensure a stable and conducive business environment.

The meeting was also attended by Puma Energy Tanzania’s Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Bakilana, and Head of Finance, Mr. Gibson Mgina.

As Tanzania positions natural gas as a bridge fuel in its energy transition strategy, Puma Energy’s expanding clean energy infrastructure signals increasing private-sector confidence in the country’s long-term economic and environmental trajectory. As Tanzania pursues industrialisation and cleaner energy solutions, Puma Energy’s expanding investments in gas infrastructure and diversified fuel services position it as a significant private-sector partner in the country’s evolving energy landscape.
