NMB launches 600/-m campaign to drive savings culture

NMB Bank has committed more than TSh600 million in customer rewards under a new savings mobilisation campaign, seeking to encourage a stronger savings culture while expanding customer participation in formal banking and digital financial services.

The Bonge la Mpango ‘Weka na Ushinde’ (Save and Win) campaign, running from November 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027, combines cash prizes, motorcycles and three vehicles as incentives for customers who save with the bank.

The initiative reflects NMB’s broader customer engagement strategy, using financial incentives to encourage savings while strengthening the relationship between banking services, household financial management and economic activities across different sectors.

Speaking at the campaign’s official launch in Dar es Salaam on November 3, NMB Chief of Retail Banking, Filbert Mponzi, said 130 customers would each receive Sh100,000 through 13 weekly draws, while another 30 customers would each win Sh500,000 through monthly draws.

The grand prizes comprise a Toyota Land Cruiser intended for tourism and two Ford Ranger vehicles, adding a significant attraction to the campaign’s cash rewards.

Beyond individual customers, the initiative also extends to agricultural cooperatives, particularly Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Societies (AMCOS) in Mtwara and Lindi, two important cashew-producing regions.

Mr Mponzi said NMB had set aside more than 20 motorcycles for AMCOS that channel their cashew payments through the bank during the 2026/2027 marketing season.

This component introduces an important agricultural financing dimension to the campaign. By encouraging cooperatives to receive and process crop payments through formal banking channels, NMB is seeking to strengthen its participation in the agricultural value chain while supporting the adoption of formal financial services among rural economic actors.

The approach also highlights the importance of banking institutions in facilitating agricultural transactions, improving access to financial services and connecting farmers and their cooperative organisations to the formal financial system.

For individual customers, the campaign is complemented by NMB’s digital banking offering, which provides access to banking services beyond traditional branch networks.

NMB’s Head of Sales and Branch Network, Donatus Richard, urged Tanzanians to open bank accounts with the top lender and develop a savings habit, emphasising the convenience of accessing financial services through NMB Mkononi.

He said the digital platform enables customers to conduct transactions and access various banking services, including loans of up to Sh5 million without collateral.

The combination of savings incentives, digital banking and accessible credit strengthens NMB’s proposition to individuals and small businesses while advancing financial inclusion. Its extension to agricultural cooperatives further demonstrates the role of banks in supporting productive sectors and expanding formal financial services.
