NMB Bank has joined the 2026 Goat Races for the first time as a sponsor, supporting a fundraising drive targeting TSh 200 million to help young people access university and vocational education.
The annual event, organised by Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay, will be held on September 19 at Posta Grounds in Kijitonyama, Dar es Salaam, with this year’s proceeds targeting support for 150 young people.
NMB Head of Private Banking Getrude Mallya said the bank’s decision to sponsor the event was influenced by its participation in last year’s race and the strong alignment between RotaryClub ’s education initiatives and NMB’s commitment to investing in education.
“We saw an opportunity to support an initiative that directly contributes to expanding educational opportunities for young people,” Ms. Mallya said.
The sponsorship of the Goat Races forms part of NMB’s broader social investment strategy, through which the bank allocates one per cent of its annual profit after tax to initiatives that create lasting social and economic impact in communities across Tanzania.
The Rotary Club partnership reinforces NMB’s focus on education and youth development, while supporting efforts to expand opportunities for young people to pursue higher and vocational education.
In 2025, the bank donated 6,365 desks to 124 schools across Tanzania, benefiting about 19,095 students.
Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay President Paul Muhato said the previous edition raised ThS 167 million, of which TSh 163 million was channelled towards supporting 136 students.
Of those beneficiaries, 100 joined universities, while 36 enrolled in vocational training, demonstrating the event’s growing role in expanding access to post-secondary education. According to Mr Muhato, the 2026 edition target seeks to build on that impact by extending education opportunities to more young Tanzanians.
