The Ministry of Energy has announced significant progress in the implementation of seven flagship projects that form part of Tanzania’s strategic energy and oil development agenda.
Speaking during the launch of the Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE) Project in Bukombe, Geita Region, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Eng. Felchesmi Mramba, said the projects are central to Tanzania’s long-term vision of energy security and economic growth.
“The ministry is overseeing the implementation of about seven strategic projects, and I am proud to report that some are already bearing fruit, including the completion of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP),” Eng. Mramba said.
Completed and ongoing projects
The projects under implementation include: East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP, 2,115 MW), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project, oil exploration initiatives, Ruhudji Hydropower Project, Rumakali Hydropower Project and Mnazi Bay North oil exploration project
According to Eng. Mramba, the JNHPP has been completed and is already feeding power into the national grid, significantly boosting the country’s electricity generation capacity.

The EACOP project, which is 65 percent complete, remains on track to be a game-changer in the region’s oil logistics, with Tanzania investing TSh 1.12 trillion as equity in the project.
Over 200 local companies are involved in the project, providing goods and services worth TSh 1.325 trillion, thus creating a ripple effect across the economy.
Meanwhile, studies for the Ruhudji and Rumakali hydropower projects have been completed, paving the way for construction, while the LNG project is in its final stages of planning.

Shared benefits for communities
Eng. Mramba emphasized that the benefits of these projects will extend beyond national revenue and energy generation.
“Apart from economic opportunities and industrial development, local communities along project corridors, such as those near EACOP, will also benefit directly by being connected to the national electricity grid,” he noted.
He added that these initiatives align with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s strategic agenda of using natural resources to fuel inclusive growth, industrialization, and job creation.
Driving Tanzania’s energy future
Tanzania’s energy sector has become a cornerstone of its development strategy, with the government positioning the country as a regional hub for oil, gas, and power. The successful completion and advancement of these projects are expected to enhance energy access, stimulate investment, and boost competitiveness across key sectors of the economy.
