Tanzania’s Ministry of Finance has urged its officials to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and public service as they engage with thousands of visitors at this year’s Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition, reinforcing the government’s broader push to improve public access to financial information and state services.

The call was made by Simbani Liganga, Assistant Director for Administration and Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Finance, during a visit to the ministry’s exhibition pavilion at the 33rd Nane Nane Agricultural Show being held at the Dr. John Samuel Malecela Exhibition Grounds in Nzuguni, Dodoma.

His message reflects a growing emphasis on using public exhibitions not merely as promotional events but as strategic platforms for improving financial literacy, strengthening government accountability and fostering greater public understanding of economic policy.

Bringing public finance closer to citizens

Liganga said the annual agricultural exhibition provides an important opportunity for the Ministry of Finance to engage directly with citizens by explaining how public finances are managed and how government policies support national economic development.

Visitors to the pavilion are receiving information on the ministry’s responsibilities, fiscal policy, the national budget preparation process, management of public assets and a range of services offered by institutions under the ministry.

“The Ministry of Finance continues to participate in national exhibitions such as Nane Nane because they provide an effective platform for bringing government services closer to the people,” Liganga said.

“I encourage members of the public to visit our pavilion and take advantage of the services and information available from our officials.”

The Nane Nane exhibition, traditionally centred on agriculture, has increasingly become a venue where government agencies showcase reforms and engage businesses, investors and citizens on policies that influence Tanzania’s economic development.

Professionalism at the forefront

Liganga reminded ministry officials that every interaction with the public contributes to the ministry’s reputation and the wider image of government institutions.

He urged staff to receive visitors courteously, respond promptly to enquiries, listen carefully to public concerns and provide accurate information based on professional standards, existing laws and government guidelines.

“Every citizen who visits our pavilion should leave having gained valuable knowledge, satisfied with the service received and with a better understanding of the Ministry of Finance’s contribution to Tanzania’s economic development and the implementation of Vision 2050,” he said.

The ministry believes quality public engagement is essential to building trust in government institutions while encouraging greater citizen participation in national development programmes.

Supporting Dira 2050

According to Liganga, the ministry’s participation in national exhibitions forms part of a broader government strategy aimed at improving transparency, strengthening accountability and expanding public awareness of economic policies and development programmes.

As Tanzania pursues the ambitions outlined in Development Vision 2050 (Dira 2050), improving public understanding of fiscal policy and government investment priorities is increasingly viewed as critical to mobilising support for long-term economic transformation.

The Ministry of Finance has continued to use the Nane Nane exhibition as a platform to promote financial literacy, encourage prudent management of public resources and strengthen collaboration between government and citizens.

Officials say the ministry intends to expand its participation in national and international exhibitions as part of efforts to reach wider audiences, improve service delivery and foster a more financially informed society capable of contributing to sustainable economic growth. For businesses, investors and ordinary citizens alike, the initiative reflects a broader shift towards making public finance more accessible and transparent – an approach that policymakers believe will strengthen confidence in government institutions while supporting Tanzania’s long-term development agenda.
