Government assures tourists of safety and stability after election unrest

Tanzania has moved to reassure international travelers and tourism stakeholders that peace and stability have been fully restored across the country following recent post-election unrest.

In an official travel advisory issued on Monday, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism said all social, economic, and tourism activities are proceeding normally after authorities swiftly contained the disturbances that followed last week’s general election.

“The Ministry wishes to inform the public, visitors, and tourism stakeholders that peace and stability have been fully restored throughout the United Republic of Tanzania,” reads the statement signed by the Ministry heads of communication unit, Ntengenjwa Hoseah. “All social, economic, and tourism activities are proceeding normally following the swift containment of recent post-election incidents.”

She affirmed that all entry and exit points – by air, land, sea and rail – remain fully operational and tourism services across the country continue without disruption.

“As a committed member of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), Tanzania upholds international standards ensuring the safety and well-being of all travelers,” the advisory added.

The government encouraged travelers to proceed with their plans to visit and explore Tanzania’s renowned attractions – including Serengeti National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, and Ngorongoro Crater – with confidence.

“Tanzania remains a peaceful, stable, and welcoming destination for tourism, business, and investment,” the statement said.

The reassurance comes just days after President Samia Suluhu Hassan was sworn in for her second term, following a tense election period marked by protests and temporary curfews in several urban centers. The tourism sector, one of Tanzania’s top foreign exchange earners, contributes about 17 percent to the national GDP and employs hundreds of thousands of people. Industry players have welcomed the government’s quick response to restore calm, saying it is vital to rebuild traveler confidence ahead of the high tourist season.
