President Samia Suluhu Hassan has held talks with Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, in Addis Ababa, underscoring Tanzania’s commitment to economic and governance reforms and closer cooperation on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the meeting, President Samia reaffirmed Tanzania’s resolve to advance structural reforms aimed at strengthening public institutions, improving service delivery and accelerating inclusive growth.
She highlighted continued collaboration with the UN in priority sectors that directly affect citizens’ livelihoods, including health, education, clean water, sanitation and poverty reduction.
According to Director of Presidential Communications, Bakari Machumu, the discussions reflected Tanzania’s strategic focus on aligning domestic reform efforts with global development frameworks.
“The President reiterated Tanzania’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the United Nations, particularly in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals in sectors that touch the lives of the majority of our people,” Machumu said in a statement. “She also expressed appreciation for the UN system’s continued diplomatic and development support across key sectors of our economy.”
President Samia further conveyed Tanzania’s readiness to receive a special envoy from the UN who has requested to visit the country to deliver a special message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
For her part, Mohammed delivered greetings from Guterres and commended Tanzania for its longstanding record of peace and stability.

“Tanzania has continued to be a model of peace on the African continent,” she said, acknowledging President Samia’s efforts to strengthen institutions and address challenges through dialogue and reconciliation.
The talks also covered reforms within the UN system, youth participation in development, and the importance of enhanced coordination between the African Union and the United Nations. Observers say the meeting signals Tanzania’s intention to remain an active and influential voice in multilateral forums while leveraging international partnerships to support its national development agenda.
