By Business Insider Reporter

In celebration of World Environment Day, Oryx Gas Tanzania has intensified its advocacy for clean cooking solutions, aligning environmental stewardship with strategic business growth.

The company organised a community engagement event at Kisiwani Primary School in Kigamboni District, focusing on the promotion of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as a sustainable alternative to traditional biomass fuels.

Speaking during the event on Friday June 6, 2025, Peter Ndomba, Oryx Gas’s Clean Cooking Energy Projects Manager, emphasised the environmental and health benefits of transitioning to LPG.

“We are urging all Tanzanians to avoid cutting down trees by adopting gas as a cleaner cooking alternative. The initiative included educational sessions for pupils and a clean-up exercise, aiming to instill environmental consciousness from a young age,” he told the scholars who took part in the event.

Oryx Gas’s commitment to clean energy extends beyond advocacy.

The company has pledged to convert six million Tanzanian households to LPG by 2034, a move that not only supports environmental conservation but also opens avenues for business expansion in the energy sector.

The company’s strategic focus includes strengthening its distribution network through a nationwide network of agents, ensuring the availability of clean cooking energy even in remote locations.

This approach not only enhances service delivery but also creates employment opportunities, contributing to the local economy.

Educational institutions have responded positively to Oryx Gas’s initiatives. Kisiwani Primary School’s headteacher, Mr. Abbas Degelo, expressed appreciation for the company’s support in environmental clean-up efforts and the donation of waste storage bins.

He also highlighted the affordability and environmental friendliness of LPG compared to firewood and charcoal.

The pupils, led by headgirl Abigael Baraka and deputy headboy Gerevas Yusufu, pledged to serve as ambassadors, sharing the knowledge gained about clean cooking energy with their communities.

This grassroots approach is expected to amplify the adoption of LPG, furthering both environmental and business objectives.

Oryx Gas’s initiatives align with the Tanzanian government’s efforts to promote clean cooking energy as part of its broader environmental conservation strategy.

By fostering partnerships between the private sector and educational institutions, the company is contributing to a sustainable future while positioning itself as a leader in the clean energy market. As the demand for sustainable energy solutions grows, Oryx Gas’s proactive engagement on World Environment Day underscores the potential for businesses to drive environmental change while achieving strategic growth.
