New tourist information centres poised to transform visitor experience

Tanzania’s tourism industry is set for a major boost as the Tanzania Tourism Sector Safety & Protection Unit (TTSSP), in partnership with the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), prepares to establish 10 state-of-the-art Tourist Information Centres across the country.

Strategically located at major entry points and key attractions, the centres are expected to significantly enhance the visitor experience and strengthen the country’s competitiveness as a global travel destination.

The centres will serve as one-stop hubs where tourists can easily access up-to-date information on attractions, cultural events, safety guidelines, and travel services.

With multilingual staff fluent in English, Swahili, French, German, and Chinese, alongside modern facilities such as interactive touchscreens, high-speed internet, maps, videos, and printed guides, the centres will improve both convenience and confidence for international visitors.

Beyond enhancing service delivery, the centres are also designed to unlock new tourism opportunities.

Dedicated research teams will continuously explore emerging attractions such as hidden caves, waterfalls, rare wildlife habitats, and unique cultural practices.

This will allow Tanzania to diversify its tourism portfolio and promote lesser-known destinations, spreading economic benefits more evenly across the country.

According to Dr. Majaliwa Maswila, Chief Executive Secretary at TTSSP, the initiative will foster collaboration with cultural and natural experts, alongside travel professionals, to package both new and existing attractions for different tourist segments.

“This approach will help create unique travel experiences, catering to adventure seekers, cultural enthusiasts, and eco-tourists alike,” he said.

The centres are also expected to play a pivotal role in data-driven tourism management.

By collecting reliable statistics on tourist arrivals, movement patterns, feedback, and safety incidents, the project will help policymakers, tour operators, and other stakeholders make informed decisions.

Strategic partnerships with tour operators, hotels, airlines, and transport providers are anticipated to strengthen the tourism value chain, offering integrated services that enhance visitor satisfaction while boosting local businesses. In the long term, the Tourist Information Centres are projected to elevate Tanzania’s global image, increase tourist arrivals, extend visitor stays, and boost spending within local economies, thereby reinforcing tourism’s contribution to national development.
