Tanzania’s newly elected Members of Parliament have been summoned to attend the opening session of the 13th National Assembly in Dodoma on November 11, 2025, marking the official start of the country’s new legislative term following last month’s general election.

A notice issued by the Clerk of the National Assembly, requires all MPs to report to Parliament offices in Dodoma for registration and related formalities between November 8 and 10, 2025, ahead of the first sitting.

The announcement follows a proclamation by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, published in the government gazette on November 4, 2025, officially summoning the new law-making organ to convene for the first time.

The inaugural meeting will mark the beginning of the 13th Parliament’s five-year term, during which newly elected lawmakers will take their oaths, elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker and set the legislative agenda for the coming session.

This comes just days after President Samia was sworn in for her second term following the October 29 general election, in which she secured 97.66 percent of the vote amid a tense political atmosphere and subsequent curfew.

The opening of the new Parliament is expected to set the tone for the government’s legislative priorities, including national reconciliation, economic recovery and governance reforms after a week of post-election unrest that disrupted economic activity across the country. The National Assembly’s Clerk has advised all MPs to complete registration procedures within the specified dates to facilitate a smooth commencement of proceedings.
